Information Services Essentials provides a quick introduction to the wide array of computing, library and flexible learning services and resources available from the Division of Information Services at Griffith University. The focus is on essential information that staff and students need to get ‘up and running’ during their first few months at Griffith.
Navigating the Site
To navigate the site, you must first select a client type: undergraduate, postgraduate coursework, postgraduate research, academic staff or general staff.You can then browse or search the following categories or areas of interest. Content is provided in brief question and answer format. There are also a number of multimedia interactives which you can listen to and view.
- Pathways
Pathways are a good place to start, when you first view Information Services Essentials. They are intended to guide you through topics which we recommend you explore first. Information in a pathway is taken from all categories. It is assumed that most users will want to view the topics in the sequence presented. - Most Rated
Find out how others rate the content in Information Services Essentials. Everyone has the ability to rate each content page, as they view it, on a 1 to 5 scale. The results of these ratings appear in this 'most rated' category. - News
Highlights new information and resources which have recently been added to Information Services Essentials. - Library Orientation
Provides an overview of Griffith’s libraries including library collections, spaces and floor plan maps. There are mini library tours for all campuses, which are available in four languages: English, Mandarin, Japanese and Arabic. These can be downloaded to your iPod should you wish to walk around the library while listening to the tour.
iPods can also be borrowed from the library Lending Desk. - Computing and Technology
Focuses on information related to computing and technology resources at Griffith such as: wireless, Internet, software, email, printing, network access, quotas and storage, security, audiovisual, telecommunications, and training support. - Learning and Teaching
Summarises how Information Services can help enhance the quality of learning and teaching, and further improve the student learning experience. This includes learning resource development, learning support and other topics. - Help and Training
Highlights the training and support available to help you: succeed in your time at Griffith; and use Information Services’ resources and services. Options comprise workshops, consultations and help-desk support as well as self-access resources. - Research Support
Find out how Information Services supports those involved in research with services such as high performance computing and Griffith Research Online.
Using the Search Feature
- To search the site, simply type one or more search terms (the words or phrase that best describe the information you want to find) into the search box. Hit the ‘Enter’ key or click on the Search button.

- In response, a results page will appear listing entries related to your search terms. The most relevant pages appear first. Relevancy is indicated by a number in brackets before the entry; the higher the number, the more relevant the entry.

- If you only want results that include an exact phrase, simply put quotation marks around your search terms (e.g. “library research tutorial”).

Information Services Essentials was funded by an Innovation Grant from the Division of Information Services in 2006/2007.
